Debbie Ackley and I, from Virginia Greyhound Adoption (VAGA) spent October 26th to November 2 volunteering at Scooby Medina in Medina del Campo, Spain. Our time was spent assisting an American vet Cathy Klein from Scottsdale, Arizona. We helped Cathy medicate many sick dogs and cats. We also cleaned crates, changed bedding, fed and loved the animals in the clinic and paddock areas.

Our visit to Scooby was both rewarding and heart-wrenching. It was an experience that will forever tie us to this wonderful rescue. There are not enough words to describe Fermín Perez, President of Scooby. What he does takes tremendous love and courage.

While visiting we met all sorts of dogs, cats, donkeys, chickens, ducks and raccoons. Fermín and his staff are the best. We were treated with much affability by the workers and volunteers at Scooby. When we would have a breakdown they were always there to comfort and console us.

We were at Scooby when the first group of dogs arrived from Seville. We have been in rescue for many years but have never seen such thin, sick dogs. The pictures tell the story but seeing the dogs in real life was heartbreaking.   The most important thing was that these dogs were now safe and would they would have clean, warm bedding, food and water.

We have so much respect for Fermín and all the people at Scooby for the work that they accomplish. It was an honor to volunteer at Scooby Medina and to have been able to help with the Seville and Scooby animals. We are looking forward to our next trip to Scooby. Until then a piece of our hearts will always remain with you all.

Hugs and Love,

Debbie and Diane
