Dear Scooby friends

Recently we received an e-mail from a German lady saying thank you for a Scooby dog. We asked her for some photos because it made us quite curious for it was one of the very timid ones. She sent us some nice, commented pictures and we decided to share them with you for this is always a topical subject. And also it could encourage one or two of you to face the task of giving a livable being to one of these suffering dogs. The story the pictures and the letter tell, again shows that not expectant love and patience can work miracles in a dog´s life. For sure it´s not always easy but also for sure it´s always worthwile!

Dear Scooby-Team

I adopted one of the scared to death males with a cut off ear from out of the kennel for very timid galgos! That’s 4 years ago now. Kasim is the name I gave to him! After letting him be for one year he has turned into a dream dog for me. Only three persons are allowed to touch him but that’s okay. In the beginning I wondered what I’ve done to him to bring him here! Seeing me was a torture to him!!!

My galgo girl showed him how to LIVE without fear. She brought quality of life and safety to him. After 3 month he let me touch him...but he always fled into the garden and walked around the house for hours - my galgo girl brought him in again!! Now Kasim sleeps next to me every night  and he uses to lay his head on my husband’s feet and then he feels satisfied!

We take him with us to every GPI summer reunion and he runs around between the people, none may touch him or look at him but that doesn’t matter!!

Thank you for this dream-galgo!!

This is how I photographed Kasim and Arielle at Scooby. They pressed themselves into the corner... so I hurried up!! This day I swore to all galgos that I will help as long as I can stand on my feet :;-))

Three month later I got both of them in foster care for the winter shunted the transport to a later time. Waiting was hell to me. Arielle lives as second galga with a friend of mine. After being fostered for one year, Kasim was still too timid to rehome him. For 4 days he kept running around the house. I could only feed him by pushing the bowl through the slightly opened door. For weeks I slept on the sofa to show him that nothing is going to happen with me in the same room.

Kasim feels very secure with Indira!! She taught him what’s life about! Confidence means you can wag you tail and to know being touched doesn’t mean being hurt. For almost two years I thought: What am I doing to this dog? He can’t feel any joy! I just  had to ignore him and Indira showed  everything to him!!!

That’s the way my galgos look when there’s a foster-galgo to be our guest ;-))) like our "Tigger" from Scooby.

That´s me with: from the left, Vera-Kaya, Angel, Indira and KASIM !!

A thank- a smile for Fermín!! This is Vera... now Kaya because the name is so suitable. It means "older sister".

This is Kasim and his family!! The black galga is Vera from Scooby!! She’s supposed to be 15 years old. She lives with me a little longer than a year now and she is fit;-))  At the time she was introduced on the Scooby-website as the oldest female in the shelter, what made me act immediately:-)

On this photo you can see Kasim!! He’s still shy with strangers. We don’t know how he’s lost his entire ear in Spain, but it must have been in a very brutal way. After 4 years he trusts just 3 persons... But he’s soooo awesome. We always fall asleep back to back ;-))
